Patong is one of the most well-known areas in Phuket, and while it’s often associated with nightlife, there’s far more to it than first impressions suggest. Set along a wide sandy beach on the island’s west coast, Patong combines easy access to island-hopping adventures, beach clubs, and some of Phuket’s most social nightlife — all in one compact area.
What makes Patong a great base is variety. You can spend your days on the water exploring nearby islands, your afternoons relaxing with a drink at sea, and your evenings diving into Phuket’s most energetic nightlife scene. If you plan it right, Patong offers some of the most memorable experiences on the island.
Below are the best things to do in Patong if you want to experience the area at its best.

YONA Floating Beach Club Day Experience
One of the most unique experiences near Patong is the YONA Floating Beach Club. Anchored just offshore, this floating venue blends beach club vibes with open-water views, creating an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and exclusive.
The experience includes transfers from Patong, access to the floating club, and plenty of space to swim, sunbathe, or simply enjoy a drink with uninterrupted ocean views. It’s an ideal option if you want something social without committing to a full island tour — and works particularly well as a late-morning or afternoon experience.

VIP Nightlife Crawl on Bangla Road & Rooftop Bars
Patong’s nightlife is famous for a reason, and Bangla Road is at the centre of it all. This VIP nightlife crawl removes the guesswork by taking you through a curated mix of rooftop bars, lively venues, and nightlife hotspots — all with hosts who know where to go and when.
Drinks, entry, and social energy are built into the experience, making it especially popular with solo travellers and groups looking for a fun, hassle-free night out. If nightlife is part of why you’re staying in Patong, this is one of the easiest ways to experience it properly.

James Bond Island & Sea Canoeing by Speedboat
For a complete contrast to Patong’s beach and nightlife scene, a day trip to Phang Nga Bay is a must. This speedboat tour takes you to James Bond Island and includes guided sea canoeing through limestone caves and hidden lagoons.
With transport, meals, and activities included, it’s a well-paced way to experience one of southern Thailand’s most iconic landscapes without needing to plan logistics yourself. It’s one of the most popular day trips from Patong for good reason.

Phi Phi & Bamboo Islands Small-Group Tour (Premium Experience)
If you’re looking for a truly premium island-hopping experience from Phuket, this small-group tour to the Phi Phi Islands and Bamboo Island stands well above standard excursions. This was our favourite tour in Phuket, and the difference in quality was noticeable from start to finish.
The day begins with hotel pickup and a smooth transfer to Phuket Marina, where you’re given a full safety briefing before boarding a speedboat designed for comfort rather than capacity. With fewer people onboard, the experience immediately feels more personal — there’s space to relax, ask questions, and actually enjoy the journey rather than feeling rushed or overcrowded.
The itinerary is exceptionally well balanced. Stops include the lush sands of Bamboo Island for swimming and snorkelling, Monkey Beach for wildlife spotting, and multiple snorkelling sessions directly from the boat in clear, vibrant water. The route also takes in Viking Cave and the stunning emerald waters of Pileh Lagoon, before finishing at Maya Bay — easily one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever visited.
What truly elevates this tour, however, is the level of service. Lunch is served at Phi Phi Holiday Resort and is genuinely excellent — a clear step above what’s typically offered on island tours, and well worth the premium price. Throughout the day, the local guides are actively involved, offering underwater guidance during snorkelling sessions and sharing insights rather than simply supervising.
We saw an incredible amount of marine life, including a turtle, sea snakes, lobsters, and colourful reef fish. One of the guides even demonstrated marine handling techniques by briefly holding a harmless jellyfish and showing how fish respond to food underwater — moments that felt spontaneous, safe, and genuinely memorable.
This tour does sit at the higher end of the price range, but it’s polished from start to finish. Snorkelling equipment, flippers, refreshments, and seasickness tablets are all included, and the organisation throughout the day is seamless. If you’re choosing just one island tour from Patong, this is the one that delivers the best balance of comfort, experience, and unforgettable scenery.
