Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace Guided Tour

We recently decided to change that with a tour of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace, and it completely exceeded our expectations. This 4-hour walking tour is a must-do, as it covers so many of London’s major destinations. The tour was well-organised, packed with fascinating stories, rich history, and stunning architecture. Walkie Talkie Building

London's Best Viewpoint: Sky Garden

Instead of paying to visit the Shard for a bird's-eye view of London—though impressive—consider booking a free access ticket to the Sky Garden, located atop the famous ‘Walkie Talkie’ building on Fenchurch Street. The rooftop bar and restaurant offer stunning panoramic views of the city, and it's free to visit. Tickets are released every Monday for the following three weeks and can go quickly, so it’s worth setting a reminder to book. We personally love visiting in the evening to catch the sunset, but it’s also quieter in the mornings if you prefer a more peaceful experience. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the views without the cost!

London Transport Guide

Getting around London is easy and efficient thanks to its extensive transport network, including the iconic London buses and the Tube (Underground). The Tube network covers much of the city and is one of the fastest ways to travel, with 11 lines serving central London and beyond. A single fare on the Tube ranges from £2.40 to £5.50 depending on the zones you travel through, but it's much cheaper if you use an Oyster card or a contactless payment card (debit or credit card). You can also use your contactless card to pay on the London buses, where the fare is a flat rate of £1.75 per journey, and you can travel as much as you like within an hour for the same price, thanks to the hopper fare.

For the best value, consider using an Oyster card or a contactless payment card for unlimited travel, with daily caps that limit how much you pay, so you won’t spend more than a certain amount per day. Visitor Oyster cards are also available for tourists, offering discounts at many attractions and restaurants. If you're staying for a few days, Travelcards are available, offering unlimited travel across buses, the Tube, and the National Rail for a fixed price. Whether you're hopping on a bus or riding the Tube, London’s transport system is both affordable and convenient!
